Xanax, also known as alprazolam, is a medication/drug/treatment used to alleviate anxiety and panic disorders. It belongs to a class of drugs recognized as benzodiazepines, which act upon the central nervous system to increase the effects of a neurotransmitter called gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA).
